Acid House Experience
FEBRUARY 1998 & REISSUED BY VIRGIN 2018
Second Hand Copies of Class of 88 on E-Bay & Amazon
Collectors have long deemed Class of 88 a classic tale worth preserving for future generations. The original title Class of 88 – The True Acid House Experience was published by Virgin Books in 1998. A decade after the rise and public fall of the illegal Acid House party movement in the UK. We can only remember two other titles on Acid House published before Wayne’s monumental true story. Wayne Anthony was interviewed for Altered States, a great book written by journalist Matthew Collins. The other title was Disco Biscuits, a collection of stories written by the likes of Douglas Rushkoff, Irvine Welsh or Alex Garland. Wayne was the first promoter to pen his first-hand account and highlight what large scale promoters were living through at that time. Wayne doesn’t consider himself a writer, for him writing books were art projects he brought to life.
Dozens of books have since been published on the subject of Acid House but none written by any Genesis’88 contemporaries. Wayne isn’t one to boast but all other books on the topic usually find their way into the fifty pence bucket after a while on the market. Collectors will tell you unsigned second-hand copies of Wayne Anthony’s book Class of 88 sell on E-Bay or Amazon for anything between £50 – £1,000. The paperbacks original retail price was £6.99 which made the title an actual investment. Amazon.co.uk sell the titles for cheaper prices than Amazon.com, our American friends across the pond are paying much higher prices than in the UK. In countries spread across Europe such as Germany, Class of 88 sells for hundreds of Euro.
Wayne has been screen-capturing the book sales over the years, collecting over one hundred screen grabs in the process. We’ve compiled a collection of them for your viewing.
